Avast Ultimate is a security software with a high detection ratio and a variety of additional features. Its malware scanner scored 100% in my tests and its web security blocked phishing websites that were able to get past Chrome’s and Firefox’s default security. Other features include a Rescue Disk, a secure browser for online shopping and banking, as well as advanced tracker blockers and an VPN.
The interface for users of the suite is easy to navigate. The main screen shows an array of icons that clearly explain the purpose of each tool. Avast utilizes an orange, blue, and white color scheme that is pleasing to the eye and easy to read.
In the Explore menu, you can discover more in-depth options for each tool, including custom scans, boot time scanning and an automatic updater. You can also save a certain type of scan in the “Scan Center” so that you can use it again at a later time.
Advanced features of Avast can help prevent ransomware by monitoring your PC for suspicious activity and then encrypting files which may be targeted. It can also detect a trojan horse (a malicious program that gets into your computer disguised as genuine software) and stop it from running on your system.
Avast’s security solutions are backed by 24 hours of live chat, email and telephone support. The free versions are backed by an extensive knowledge base and community, while paid plans include advanced features such as identity protection and unlimited VPN, USB protection and patch management.
